Dr Bronte Tilbrook is a biogeochemist, based in Hobart with the CSIRO Oceans and Atmosphere Flagship. He graduated in 1992 with a PhD in chemical oceanography from the University of Hawaii.
Dr Tilbrook leads a number of research projects on ocean acidification and carbon cycling in the Southern Ocean and in the waters around Australia. As a part of this research, he has established Australia’s ocean observing system for the detection of carbon dioxide uptake/storage that extends from the Antarctic shelf to the Tropics. The research provides key data for the Southern Ocean to determine trends in ocean storage of carbon and the impact on the global carbon budget, and to detect ocean acidification change and the response of marine biota.
His research is integrated with international efforts to cover all ocean regions and to deliver research products and synthesis for model testing.
