FAQ's

How are members selected?

An assessment panel, comprised of GBRF Traditional Owner Working Group members and select GBRF staff, will assess applications against the criteria and consider a complementary mix of skills, attributes and qualifications.

How long is my term for?

Twelve months, with a review point at this time.

Do I have to be a Reef Traditional Owner to apply?

Yes. This programme is a special measure identified to support Traditional Owners of the Reef and for the water quality Traditional Owner working group we also encourage Traditional Owners from the Reef Catchment area. Therefore, please state your Traditional Owner group that exists within the Great Barrier Reef or Great Barrier Reef Catchment area. Click here for a link to the map.

Will I be paid or receive sitting fees?

Technical working group members will be paid for their time. Applicants are requested to submit a schedule of rates. However, it is anticipated that GBRF will establish standard rates for certain activities and functions. Costs associated with travel, accommodation and meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) will be covered for all meetings. Additional incidental Travel Allowances are not covered.

What other support is there for working group members?

GBRF will support each technical working group by organising all meetings travel, accommodation, and providing secretariat support.

What is the time commitment?

Minimum of 20 days per year. We expect a minimum of three meetings will be held over a 12 month period. Meetings will be held in regional cities (within the Reef’s catchment) or Brisbane. Meetings will be held over 2 – 3 days including travel.

Tentative dates for the first six months of 2020 for working groups are:

· Early March: Informed of selection process

· Week of 24-27 March: 1-day meeting in Townsville with your working group

· 28 April 2020: 1-day meeting in Cairns with combined Traditional Owner working groups

· Regional workshops that at least one member from each Traditional Owner technical working group would attend:

Cairns 21 – 22 May 2020

Townsville 26-27 May 2020

Rockhampton 19-20 June 2020

Cooktown 24-25 June 2020

Will the Traditional Owner working groups be a representative structure?

No. Members of the Traditional Owner technical working groups will be selected on expertise and ability to deliver a negotiated program of works; and on their ability to establish, foster and maintain collaborative working relationships, rather than on a representative basis.
