The Foundation
The Great Barrier Reef Foundation exists to ensure a Great Barrier Reef for future generations. We seek out the solutions and innovations that will also benefit coral reefs globally as they tackle the same threats and challenges facing the world's largest Reef.

$90m raised
Our Reef is the world’s largest with an extraordinary diversity of marine life. It is under serious threat. We are the lead fundraisers for the Reef and over 18 years have raised over $90m for Reef projects. 64% is from corporate and private philanthropy.
Role for all
Everyone has a role to play in protecting the Reef. We bring together Australia’s leading scientists (from CSIRO, AIMS, GBRMPA, universities and research institutions), with business (including leaders of Australia’s largest companies), philanthropy and g
No. 1 threat
Climate change is the greatest threat to the Reef. That’s why in 2010 we launched the world’s first integrated project portfolio to tackle climate change and coral reefs.
Scientific oversight
Project selection and oversight is done by the International Scientific Advisory Committee - leaders of research and management on the Reef, inc. GBRMPA, AIMS, UQ, JCU, CSIRO. Chairman’s Panel & corporate partners have no role in selecting projects.
