Australian NFL star punter Mitch Wishnowsky has thrown his support behind saving the Great Barrier Reef by choosing the Great Barrier Reef Foundation as his chosen cause as part of the NFL’s ‘My Cause My Cleats’ campaign.
Great Barrier Reef Foundation Managing Director Anna Marsden said we are honoured that San Francisco 49ers punter Mitch Wishnowsky chose to support the Foundation as we work to save the Reef and all its living diversity for future generations.
“The Great Barrier Reef is the largest living structure on Earth, with rich corals spanning an area larger than New Zealand and visible from space,” Ms Marsden said.
“It is an irreplaceable global icon and as Australians, we should be proud that it’s our responsibility to look after it.
“But, as Mitch Wishnowsky knows, our Reef is coming under increasing pressure from a growing combination of manmade and natural threats.
“Saving the Reef is a huge task, but it’s one that Australia can and must meet. There’s no alternative, but there is hope.”
San Francisco 49ers punter Mitch Wishnowsky said for my cause I chose to support the Great Barrier Reef Foundation and play for a healthier environment.
“I hope I can bring awareness to this cause because it is close to my heart and my home,” Mr Wishnowsky said.
“To support our cause, Mitch has designed a pair of custom cleats that feature the Foundation that will be signed and auctioned off soon,” Ms Marsden said.
“NFL players wore their custom cleats featuring their chosen cause during the ‘My Cause My Cleats’ round.
“This is the first time that an NFL player has chosen to support an Australian based charity during the My Cause My Cleats campaign.
“Since moving to the USA to play NFL, Mitch’s football career has gone from strength to strength with the Western Australian born punter recently winning the special teams player of the week award.”
