The Great Barrier Reef Water Science Taskforce, chaired by Chief Scientist Dr Geoff Garrett, released its final report to the Queensland Government on 25 May, naming climate change as the single biggest threat to the Reef, and listing the greatest water quality risks as excess nutrients, fine sediments and pesticides.
The report recommends a greater focus on innovation, education support for farmers and expanded monitoring of water quality and says that a range of different tools and approaches will be needed because there is no “silver bullet solution” to all of the issues facing the Reef.
