Scientists and non-scientists joined forces across Australia and the world on Saturday to celebrate Earth Day with a March for Science. With marches held in Cairns, Townsville, Brisbane and seven other Australian cities, March for Science marked a global movement to champion the vital role science plays every day in our health, safety, economies and governments.

The March formed part of a global campaign that saw residents in 11 Australian cities and 440 international locations march under the slogan “Science, not silence”.

The March for Science campaign aims to raise awareness for a long-term vision to improve science literacy; and to promote knowledge sharing, the need for stable support for scientific research and the need for public policy based on scientific evidence. It is a march for people from all professions, races, genders, religions and socioeconomic backgrounds who support science.
