It looks like a giant aquarium showroom. But the $40M national sea simulator facility, SeaSim for short, is giving scientists the unprecedented ability to research complex problems that will help inform what needs to be done to protect the Great Barrier Reef.
Located at the Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS) in north Queensland, SeaSim is a critical tool in the armory of science-fuelled solutions for the challenges facing the Reef.
Researchers working on the innovative Foundation-funded ‘sunscreen’ for the Reef project using biopolymers will take advantage of this world-class research facility later this year.
