The Great Barrier Reef Foundation is excited to launch the inaugural ReefBlitz. This event invites the entire community to get their hands dirty collecting data and discovering the plants and animals living in and around our Great Barrier Reef.
ReefBlitz will become an annual event that harnesses the interest in the protection and preservation of the Reef by providing a real, practical mechanism for people to contribute positively to the Reef’s future.
There will be plant and animal surveys, a beach clean-up, a targeted schools program, presentations and other exciting activities held over the 2 day event. This new initiative is being piloted at Cannonvale Beach (Airlie) on 24th and 25th October 2014.
This launch is a significant milestone for the Reef, providing volunteers with a hands-on opportunity to be involved in the monitoring, management and maintenance of Reef ecosystem health, while fostering community stewardship and appreciation of the Reef.
