ReefBlitz 2017 marked the launch of the Foundation’s ‘A Day on the Reef’ experience hosted on the southern Great Barrier Reef’s Lady Elliot Island.

Snorkelling with turtles, spotting healthy coral species, and discovering the secrets to sustainability were all in a day’s work for the Foundation’s corporate supporters who experienced a spectacular day on the Reef.

Google, Boeing, Rio Tinto, Qantas, Allens, Goa and Orica sent selected team members to be immersed in what’s happening on the Great Barrier Reef. They joined the Foundation on Lady Elliot Island to see firsthand the amazing natural wonder that their organisations are actively working to support.

As well as the reef snorkelling, a highlight of the day was meeting Australia’s leading sustainable tourism pioneer and Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort CEO Peter Gash for a behind the scenes look at the resort’s eco initiatives that are on track to achieving 100% sustainability by 2020.

For many, it was their first (but hopefully not last) trip to the Great Barrier Reef. These new ‘Reef ambassadors’ are now spreading the word and sharing their experience with colleagues, friends and family to ensure a healthy Great Barrier Reef remains a priority for all.
